Kathleen Ann West, 21, the daughter of an army sergeant in the first World War, also is joining the WAVES. Her father, Harold West, is a past commander of the Walcott, Ia., American Legion post, and Mrs. West is now president of the auxiliary. Miss West has been a beauty operator at Davenport, Ia.

Leave Saturday to Serve in WAVES
Miss Helen Zuber and Miss Kathleen West were accepted by the WAVES on March 18 and will leave Saturday for Hunter college in New York.
Miss Zuber, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest B. Zuber, sr., of
1825 West Fourth street, Davenport, attended Marycrest college and has been employed in the office of Zoller Brewing Co.
Miss West, whose parents are Mr. and Mrs. Harold T. West of Jersey Ridge road, has been a cosmetologist at the Petersen-Harned-Von Maur store.

Kathleen West (left) daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H.T. West, R.R. No. 1 Davenport, and Helen Zuber, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E.V. Zuber, 1825 West Fourth street, were school girl chums but drifted apart as they grew older. Miss West enlisted in the WAVES and went to Des Moines for her physical examination. There she found Miss Zuber. They were sent together to Hunter College in New York for their basic training and graduated May 15. From there the two were sent to Atlanta, Ga., to the link instrument training school for instructors and came out specialists T, third class.
Good luck still clung to the Davenport girls and they were sent together to their naval air base at Clinton, Okla., where they are now stationed., They are now both home on a 15-day furlough. Before entering the service Miss West was employed Petersen, Harned, Von Maur and Miss Zuber worked for the Zoller Brewing Co. It is rare that two girls from the same city in the same branch of service are allowed to remain together.

Davenport Girl Weds at Navy Base
Wearing their white navy uniforms, marriage vows were spoken at 4 p.m. today in the chapel of the naval base at Clinton, Okla., uniting Miss Kathleen A. West, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold T. West of Route No. 1, Davenport, and Austin D, Gavin, son of Mr and Mrs martin Gavin of Philadelphia.
The bride who is a specialist technician, second class, in the WAVES, carried a bouquet of white gladiola blossoms and a white Bible. The bridegroom is a yeoman, first class, in the United States navy.
Alice Pozorski of Milwaukee, Wisc, who is also a specialist technician, second class, in the WAVES, was the maid of honor and Ensign Jules de Beaubien of Detroit Mich., was best man. Belva Sangstad, also a WAVE, and in the same rank as the bride gave vocal solos.
A dinner was served, attended by the bridal party and a few friends. A three-tier wedding cake adorned the table the appointments of which were in bridal white.
The bridal couple are coming to Davenport on their honeymoon and will be honored at a reception at the home of the bride's grandmother, Mrs A. Hagen of 826 West Eighth street, Saturday from 7 to 10 p. m. All relatives and friends are invited.
Sunday evening the couple will be honored at a family dinner at the home of the bride's parents.
The bride was graduated from Davenport high school and the Brusselle School of Cosmetology. Prior to entering the WAVES, she was a beautician at the Petersen-Harned-Von Maur store. The bridegroom attended the University of Pennsylvania prior to entering the navy.
On their return, the couple will reside at 614 North Jefferson street, Elk City, Okla.
