Above are six of the 15 young women, sworn into the WAVES Thursday by Lieut. William Black of Chicago, U.S.N. They comprise the second group to join the WAVES since the campaign opened, with headquarters at the Hotel Blackhawk. It is expected that the number of enlistees from this area will be more than 100.

Muriel Jean Randall, 1018 Pershing avenue, Davenport;
Jeanne Marie Schleich, 2412 Fifteenth avenue, Moline;
Bernadine Lois Sellers, 1509 ½ Sixth avenue, Moline;
June Elizabeth Tompkins, route No. 1, East Moline;
Elsie Marie Victor, 516 Eighteenth and one-half avenue, Rock Island;
Maurine Caroline Wacker, 1329 Ripley street, Davenport;
Carolyn White-Bear, 1505 Pershing avenue, Davenport.
Miss White-Bear is an Indian, who attended the State Teachers college in Minot, N.D., and is now employed at the Rock Island arsenal.

Wilton -- Pvt. Anita A. Wacker, U.S. Marine Corps Women's Reserve, has graduated from the motor school at Camp Lejueune, N.C., and has been transferred to the marine base at Quanitco, Va., and is now driving an International K3 truck, according to word received by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Wacker. Pvt Wacker recently spent the weekend in Washington, D.C. with her sister, Maurine C. Wacker, yeoman third class, of the WAVES, who is stationed at the Ana Costa air base near that city.

WILTON WAVE ADVANCED
Wilton, Ia. -- Maurine C. Wacker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Wacker, serving it the WAVES at Anacosti air base, Washington, D.C., has been made yeoman, second class. She entered the service in August, 1943.

Maurine Caroline Wacker Peeks was born Apr. 23, 1922 to Harold C. and Etna V. Doran Peeks. She died Aug. 20, 2004 and is buried in Oakdale Cemetery, Wilton, IA.
Petty Officer Peeks served with the U.S. Navy WAVES in World War II. She was married to Norman Peeks. Sgt. Norman Peeks served with the U.S. Army in World War II.
