Rowe Family Sets Record For Participation in World War No. 2
Letts -- An outstanding record for war service is being set by Mr. and Mrs. Albert Rowe and their eight children. The family home is near Letts.
Pictured above are three of their children. Lieut. Jean Rowe of the United States Army Nurses Corps, has been stationed in New Guinea for about seven months. PFC Theodore Rowe, a United States Army paratrooper, recently landed in New Guinea, and Pvt. Calvin Rowe, serving in an army infantry division, is enroute to service overseas. All three are graduates of the Letts high school. The brother and sister in New Guinea enjoyed a visit together recently.
A son-in-law, S/Sgt. Edward Nunemacker is stationed at Fort Riley, Kas., Mrs. Nunemacker, who is making her home there, is visiting at present at the home of her parents.
Miss Florence Rowe, who has been employed in Kresge's store in Muscatine for five years, will report July 3 at Arlington, Va., where she has been accepted for a civil service position.
Miss Gertrude Rowe has been assisting with the war effort as she has been employed for several years at the Iowa Ordnance plant at Burlington.
Mr. Rowe, a native of England but now a citizen of the United States and Mrs. Rowe and two younger sons, Lawrence and Wesley, are operating a farm south of Letts. Mrs Rowe is active member in the United States Service organization.

Pfc. Calvin Rowe has been released from a hospital in England where he has been receiving treatment for frozen feet. Pfc. Rowe is receiving training for limited service. Two other members of the Rowe family in the service are Lt. Jean Rowe, A.N.C. on Leyte Island, and T/5 Theodore Rowe, a paratrooper also on Luzon. Another son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Rowe, Wesley, has just registered as an 18 year old.

NURSE REASSIGNED
Letts, Ia. -- Lieut Jean Rowe, on leave with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Rowe, after 26 months service overseas with the army nurses corps, has been assigned to Fitzsimmons general hospital, Denver, Colo.

Jean Deloris Rowe Burgus was born Mar. 13, 1920 to Albert and Lydia Rebecca Hingst Rowe. She died Apr. 8, 2009 and is buried in Kossuth Cemetery, Mediapolis, IA.
1st Lt. Rowe served with the U.S. Army Nurse Corps at the 125th Station Hospital in Camp Carson, CO and then went overseas and worked in Army hospitals in the Pacific Theatre at Brisbane, Australia, New Guinea and the Philippines, earning two Battle Stars. She was married to Harold Samuel Burgus.
Harold was a World War II Army veteran, serving with Company D, 186th Infantry, 41st Division for four years.
