54 JOIN THE WAVES -- Pictures above and on the left are 17 of the 54 who passed examinations and were sworn into the WAVES late Thursday. They are among the 75 from the Tri-city area who will depart Aug 11 for Hunter college, New York, to start their training.

WAVE of the Day
Mary Gertrude McGinn, storekeeper, third class, 619 East Thirteenth street, Davenport, is now stationed in the supply office at Lambert field, Missouri.
She entered the WAVES last September and took her "boot' at Hunter college, New York City, followed by
storekeeper's training at George State Teacher's college.
Prior to entering the service she was employed at the Rock Island arsenal.
Her brother, Pat McGinn, is in the marine crops, now stationed in the south Pacific, and her sister, Genevieve McGinn, is in the cadet nurse corps.
