GILBERTVILLE GIRL LEAVES FOR FLORIDA FOR WAACS TRAINING
Gilbertville, Ia. -- Miss Adeline Johannes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Johannes, left Gilbertville Sunday for Daytona Beach, Fla., where she will take basic training in the Womens's Army Auxiliary Corps. She joined the WAACs in October.
Miss Johannes is a graduate of Nicollet High school, Nicollet, Minn, attended Minnesota State Teachers college, St. Peter, Minn and taught four years in Minnesota. Before joining the WAACs, she was employed at Blacks in Waterloo.
She is the third member of the Johannes family to join the armed forces, her two brothers being stationed in North Africa, Tech. Sgt Donald of the air corps and Pfc. James of the Coast Artillery.
Miss Johannes is the first member from this community of the WAACs.

Langley Field, Va. -- Third Officer Adeline Johannes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs J.W. Johannes of Gilbertville, Ia., a member of the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps, is the first WAAC to be assigned to this field. Third Officer Johannes, whose rank is equivalent of second lieutenant, has been appointed supply and mess officer of the WAAC company, which is scheduled to arrive her sometime during the month.
Third Officer Johannes, who is helping to ready quarters that the WAACs will occupy once they arrive at Langley field to relieve men for combat duty, received her basic training at Daytona Beach, Fla., and her officer training at Des Moines, Ia. She enlisted in the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps, Oct. 12, 1942 and was called to active duty on Dec. 26, 1942, prior to which she was employed as a clerk in the James Black Dry Goods Company store, Waterloo, Ia.
Third Officer Johannes attended teachers Training School, St. Peter, Minn.

Gilbertville -- First Lt. Adeline Johannes, who is stationed at Langley field, Va., is spending a 19-day leave with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Johannes. Lieutenant Johannes is a graduate from command general staff school at Ft. Leavenworth, Kan. Her sister, Donna, took leave of absence from her work in the chaplains office at Langley field to join her sister in their visit here.

First Lt. Adeline A. Johannes and First Lt. Reginald G. Leach, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry J. Leach, East Burke, Vt., were married Oct. 12 in the post chapel at Langley Field, where both the bride and groom are stationed. The two will make their home at 12 Fenton Place, Langley View, Hampton, Va.
