Miss Kathleen Hea, Sworn into WAVES, Honored at Party

Miss Kathleen Hea who has just been sworn into the WAVES at the Des Moines navy recruiting station was honored at a luncheon and handkerchief shower given by Mrs. Newton J. Smith, at her home, 116 Tennessee avenue southeast, Wednesday afternoon. Miss Hea, who is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marshall J. Hea, 1002 Second street northwest, is awaiting her call to Hunter college.

Mason Cityan Is Busy With Duties as WAVE

Kathleen Hea, Yeoman second class, is kept busy these days at the Naval Air Technical Training Command, Chicago, Ill. She takes care of the sounds scriber machine, does shorthand and typing for administrative officer, and is a part time driver for the command. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M.J. Hea, Mason City, Iowa, who have a son, Marshall James Hea, Jr., a Ships Cook 2nd class in the Navy, now in the Pacific.

Miss Hea was graduated form the Mason City high school and attended the Mason City Junior college, Iowa State college, Ames, and Iowa State Teachers college, Cedar Falls, and before entering the WAVES was employed by the Armour and company in Mason City. She became a member of the women's reserve in July, 1943, and received her "boot" training at Hunter college, The Bronx, N.Y., and Yeoman school, at Cedar Falls. Her first duty station was NATTC, Chicago.

Women for 20-36 years interested in joining in the service of their country, may obtain complete information by contacting the navy recruiting station, Mason City, or the office of naval procurement, 213 Old Federal Building, Des Moines. The navy needs many more women, particularity in the hospital corps, and it urges all young women to learn if they are eligible to help finish the fight against the Japs.
