Algona Girl Completes WAAC Basic Training
Auxiliary Mary E. Grubb has recently completed her basic training at the First Women's Army Auxiliary Corps Training Center in Des Moines. She has been selected for specialists training in the Bakers and Cooks School.
Mary is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.Jesse Grubb of Algona. She entered the service on February 20. Three weeks before that time she enlisted and took her entrance tests and returned here to wait for her call. Before Joining the WAAC's Mary worked as a practical nurse in this community. Her parents report that she is enthusiastic about the Women's Army and likes the military life.
The Bakers and Cooks course is one of th emore than 100 jobs listed by the army replacing soldiers with WAACs in important behind-the-line jobs.

Sgt. Mary E. Worley, formerly Mary Grubb, was discharged from the WACS at Des Moines last Friday. Mrs. Worley spent a few days with her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. George Grubb, at Des Moines following discharge and then came to Algona Wednesday evening to remain here while her husband is overseas in the Pacific.
