Second Lt. Godden Now Serving Overseas
According to a cablegram received here last Tuesday by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Godden, their daughter, Second Lieutenant Mary Elizabeth Godden, is now overseas. She is a dietitian with the army medical corps and prior to overseas duty was stationed at the Tormey General hospital, Palm Springs, Calif. This hospital, a former resort hotel taken over by the army, is located west of the Santa Rosa mountains. She was one of five dietitians who planned the meals for 1200 patients in the hospital. Most of the patients were from the United States and some of them from the Aleutians.
Mary Elizabeth is a graduate of St Cecelia's Academy, class of '38. She attended Clark College, Dubuque, two years and also took two years at Iowa State University, Iowa City, where she received her B.A. degree. She served her internship at Harper hospital, Detroit. On June 1, 1943, she signed up with the army. She spent ten days with home folks here and on June 15 left for Palm Springs, Calif, being assigned to duties in Tormey General hospital until recently when she was transferred to overseas duties..
