Checking Up On the Weather is the work of this group at the naval station. Red-haired Virginia Chandler of Des Moines holds a pilot balloon whose flight will be studied by Helen Martin of Boston and T.E. Adams of Kansas City, Mo., chief aerographers mate. Through the theodolite on the tripod they follow the balloon's flight and determine wind velocity and direction at various altitudes. The information then is passed on to pilots, and flights are scheduled accordingly.
