WAVE of the Day
Shirley Maxine Buckles, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Buckles, 3020 Dubuque street, is now an apprentice seaman in the WAVES and is awaiting orders to report to Hunter college, New York City, for her "boot" training.
She attended Davenport high school, where she was active in basketball, baseball, guild club and girls athletics association. At present she is working at the Rock Island arsenal.
Her sister, Ruth, has also enlisted in the WAVES, and the two plan to take their "boot" training together.
