Clinton County Men Leave Today for U.S. Army
Thirty-three Clinton county men under jurisdiction of selective service board 2, here, left at noon today by bus for Des Moines for induction into the U.S. Army at Ft. Des Moines. The men were drawn from the first two groups registered in October, 1940 and in July, 1941.
Edwin M. Lass was designated leader of the group and L.J. Craddock, assistant leader. The other selectees were: Louis August Haferbier, Walter Nicholas Doty, Gilbert Mersum Christiansen, Russell Claus Waite, Robert Arthur Schmidt, Raymond Louis Horst, Marvin Carl Rickertsen, Frankie Jurgen Allender, Clayton Russell White, Edward LeRoy Horn and William Edward Howson.
Elmer John Ulldich, Philip Louis Rosenberg, Walter Bartels, Verne H. Blaser, Donald Henry Schroeder, Howard Hans Munck, Albert Ferdinand Stremlow, Jr., Donald Moore Campbell, Warren Christian Andresen, Edward Melbourne Stiles and Meredith Wayne Young.
Harry Charles Schepler, Glen Henry Barber, Harry Robert Scherer, Louis Lawrence Longman, Arthur Edward Ries, Gerald Owen Broderson, William O. Wharff, Charles G. Hansen and Allen John Bark.
Numerous friends and relatives of the men assembled at the City hall at noon to bid the selectees “bon voyage” as the chartered bus pulled out for Des Moines.
