Both on Terminal Leave
With more than two years overseas duty in the south Pacific, “Scout,” a pure bred Belgian shepherd, has received an honorable discharge from the U. S. army canine corps and has arrived in Waterloo. His master, First Lt. Gordon Taylor, is now on terminal leave.
“Scout” has worked mostly in the Solomon island group and is classified in the canine corps as a scout and sentinel dog. He is not vicious, his master explained, but is strictly a one-man dog. The guard and assault dogs are those which are leash-trained and very vicious, Taylor said.
The coal black shepherd is about three and one-half years old and during his stretch in the service” was wounded in the right rear leg.
“Scout” received his discharge when overseas, and at that time was presented as a gift to First Lieutenant Taylor, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Taylor, 140 Independence avenue.
