Gordon E. Wright was born Feb. 4, 1917 to Benjamin Franklin and Millie Rilla Elliott Wright. He died May 26, 1945 and is buried in Lorraine American Cemetery, St. Avold, France.
Sgt. Wright was sent overseas on Aug. 4, 1942 and was stationed for 16 months on Iceland; then for six months in England. He took part in the Normandy invasion and, as a result of his injuries received, was awarded the Purple Heart.
He served with the U.S. Army 3041st Graves Registration Company and died in Germany in a vehicle accident.
