Marion Lonner Wheeler was born Jun 25, 1919 to Starlin Thompson and Hazel Lonner Wheeler. He died Sept. 16, 1942 and is memorialized at the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines. He has a cenotaph in Sorden Cemetery, Webster, IA.
Lt. Wheeler served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps as a bombardier with the 30th Bomber Squadron, 19th Bomber Group, Heavy. He was part of the crew on B-17F #41.24427 that took off from Port Moresby on a mission to bomb Rabaul and were not heard from again. He was awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart.
