Cpl. Francis E. Welch, son of Mrs. H. E. Johnson of this city, has arrived in the Mariana Islands where he is attached to an aerial photography unit. He has been overseas about two months.

Francis E. Welch was born Apr. 27, 1918 to Lawrence and Edna Johnson Welch. He died Dec. 26, 2008 and is buried in Sparks Cemetery, Boone County, IA.
Cpl. Welch was a photographer and served in World War II with the First Photo Mapping Squadron, Third Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron.

Frank Welch, 90, died December 26, 2008. His body has been cremated and a Memorial Service will be Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, at 10 a.m. at the Central Christian Church in Boone. Burial of his cremains will be in the Sparks Cemetery, southwest of Boone.
Frank was born April 27, 1918, in Webster City, the son of Lawrence and Edna (Johnson) Welch. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1937. On October 22, 1941, Frank married Juanita Tolliver in Denver, Colo. He served with the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. Frank was a photographer and for 38 years, he owned Welch studio in one, retiring in 1985. Frank was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Toastmasters, American Legion, Iowa Polka Club, and Iowa Antique Bottle Club. Frank was an active member of his church and Boy Scouts.
Frank is survived by his wife, Juanita of Boone, a son, Red. Ted (Jan) Welch of Zearing, a daughter, Joan (Sheldon) Perkins of Bella Vista, Arkansas, three brothers, Lester (Nancy) Welch of Fullerton, Calif., Larry (Leanne) Hartley of Fort Dodgem and John (Ardys) Hartley of Cedar Park, Texas, a sister, Mary Alice (Vernon) Hanson of Bishop, Texas, five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two great-great granddaughters.
Friends may call at the Central Christian Church on Wednesday an hour prior to the service. Memorials may be given to his church.
Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall in Boone is in charge of the arrangements.
