William Francis ‘Bill’ Vance was born Feb. 28, 1921 to Lewis and Grace Pearl Alcorn Vance. He died July 23, 2007 and is buried in Graceland Cemetery, Webster City, IA.
Col. Vance was a pilot in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps. He flew bombing missions in a B-24 Liberator in the southwest Pacific area. After being released from active duty, he spent 19 years in the Air Force Reserve retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.
