Sergeant J. W. Tackett left for Lowry field, Colorado, after spending a six-day furlough with his wife at 2121 W. Third Street.

Flying Cross Awarded Sioux Cityan

Col. David Wade, base commander at Walla Walla army airfield, Washington, is shown awarding the Distinguished Flying Cross with one oak leaf cluster to S. Sgt. John W. Tackett, son of Mrs. Hazel Tackett of Glendale, California, during recent presentation ceremonies at the Fourth air force Liberator bomber field. Sgt. Tackett, an instructor engineer gunner, served for 12 months in the South Pacific with the Fifth Air Force. He holds the D.F.C. with one cluster and the air medal with one oak leaf cluster. He attended schools in the coast city and before going into the air forces served with General Motors in Sioux City. Sgt. And Mrs. Tackett and their 16-month-old boy reside in Walla Walla. Mrs. Tackett is the former Elma Lee Handy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Handy of 2121 W. Third Street, Sioux City.
