George Samuel Sward was born July 27, 1924 to Oscar William and Ruba Jean Nicholson Sward. He died Nov. 27, 1943 and is memorialized at the Tablets of the Missing, North Africa American Cemetery, Tunis, Tunisia.
Pvt. Sward served in World War II with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, 853rd Engineer Battalion, Aviation Division in the European Theatre of Operations. He was initially reported MIA in the sinking of a troop transport at sea by enemy action and later declared KIA. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
