Private Jack Stronks, midyear Central High School graduate and former announcer for a radio station here under the name John Edwards, is now stationed in an armored infantry regiment at North Camp Polk, Louisiana.

Graduate of Central High School Lost in France
Pvt. Jack Stronks, son of Bernard Stronks, 701 Pierce Street, has been reported missing in action.
Pvt. Stronks was in the armored infantry, and trained at Camp Polk, La., in Texas and at Fort Meade, Md., before going overseas to Wales, and then to France. He is 19 and a graduate of Central High School in the class of 1943.

Purple Heart Posthumously To S.C. Soldier
The Purple Heart has been awarded Pvt. Jack E. Stronks posthumously according to word received from the war department by his father, Bernard Stronks, 701 Pierce Street.
Pvt. Stronks was a Central High School graduate who entered the service March 19, 1943 and who was killed in action in France July 23, 1944. Between the time he graduated from high school, January 1943, until he entered the service, he was the announcer known as John Edwards at KTRI.

Jack E. Stronks died July 23, 1944 and is buried in Brittany American Cemetery, Montjoie Saint Martin, France.
Pvt. Stronks served in World War II with the U.S. Army 315th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division.
