MEMORIAL AT BURT CHURCH: FLOYD STOTT
Former Portland Boy Killed in Service is Honored.
The Presbyterian church, Burt, was filled to capacity Sunday afternoon for memorial services for 1st Lt. Floyd A Stott, paratrooper in the airborne army service, who was killed December 27 on a mission over the European theater of war.
The pastor, the Rev. Mr. Figge, spoke on The Good Fight of Faith, 1 Tim. 6:12.
The Burt Legion Post, the auxiliary, and the United Service Women attended in a body. After the processional Mrs. C. W. Patterson placed a gold star on the church flag. Special hymns were God Will Take Care of You, Shall We Gather at the River? and Lead, Kindly Light. The Legion post conducted taps.
The parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wyot Stott, former Portland twp. farmers, and their daughter Mrs. Vernon Pederson, also the lieutenant’s brother Merrill, came from Lebanon, Mo., Mrs. Leo Immerfall, Floyd’s sister, her husband and daughter, attended from Algona.
Monetary contributions in honor of the deceased totaled $95.50—$23.50 for the Red Cross, $50 for blood plasma, and $22 for army and navy relief.
Floyd was born Mar. 24, 1921, at Mankato, but lived practically all his life in Portland township. He was graduated from the Burt high school in 1938, enlisted in the national guard in 1940, was trained at Camp Claiborne, was graduated from an officer candidate school as a 2nd lieutenant, later was promoted to 1st lieutenant, and was sent overseas last June. He served in General Patch’s army in Italy till December, when he was transferred to Belgium. He was awarded the purple heart the combat badge, and two silver stars.

FIRST RELEASE OF STATE HISTORICAL DEATH SUMMARIES
Eighty men from Kossuth county lost their lives while in the service of their country in World War II.

Floyd Andrew Stott was born Mar. 24, 1921 to Wyott and Elsie Mae Ringsdorf Stott. He died Dec. 27, 1944 and is buried in Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery.
Lt. Stott served in World War II with the U.S. Army 517th Parachute Infantry Regiment and was KIA in Belgium and awarded the Purple Heart.
