Air Cadet H.K. Schandorff, son of T.J. Schandorff, 1414 Myrtle Street, recently was graduated from the bombardier class of the army air force preflight school at Ellington field, Texas. He has began basic training at Big Spring, Texas.

Win Commissions As Bombardiers
Commissioned as second lieutenants and Silver Bombardier Wings were awarded Hayward K. Schandorff, 1414 Myrtle Street, left and Herschel M. Lockett, brother of Russell Lockett, Kingsley, Iowa at graduation exercise in Texas Bombardier Schools Thursday. Second Lieut. Schandorff was graduated from the school at Big Spring and Second Lieut. Lockett was honored at the Midland School The two officers will be assigned for further training before being placed in actual combat.

First Lieut. Hayward K. Schandorff, bombardier on a B-24 Liberator, received the air-medal for meritorious achievement while participating in an aerial flight near Kavieng, New Ireland. While engaged on a mission to attack enemy shipping, his aircraft made three direct hits on an enemy vessel which sank four minutes later. Lieut. Gen. George C. Kenney awarded the citation.
Lieut. Schandorff previously received five oak leaf clusters. He has completed 300 combat hours with the Ninth air force in New Guinea. He was graduated from Big Spring, Texas, March, 1943.
He is the son of T. J. Schandorff, 1414 Myrtle Street. His wife the former Margaret Wilson, resides at 521 Prescott Street.
