Lieut. Leon D. Sample, Jr., a bombardier, is spending a short leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Sample, Sr., 1919 Iowa Street. He received his commission as second lieutenant April 1, at Victorville, Cal., and is now stationed at Fresno, Cal.

Sioux Cityan Gets His Wings

Leon D. Sample, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Leon D. Sample, 1919 Iowa Street, was graduated April 1, with a class of bombardier navigators at the Victorville army airfield, Victorville, Cal., according to announcement made by Col. Earl C. Robbins commanding officer. The airfield is on the edge of the Mojave Desert, about 100 miles from Los Angeles. The graduate was presented his silver wings by Capt. John D. Barnard, the school secretary. He is well known in Sioux City and is a graduate of Central High School. Later he was a student at Iowa State College until he entered the air corps.
