John Rose, former sports editor of the Sioux City Tribune, now a lieut. In the navy on duty in the Atlantic Ocean, is spending a six-day leave with his wife, Mrs. Jane Rose, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Rose, 1324 W. Fifth Street.

Lieut. Jack Rose Killed
Navy Officer Was Central Graduate; Attended Iowa “U”
Lieut. Jack Allen Rose, 26, a native Sioux Cityan, came to his death “as a result of an operational accident April 4, while in the performance of his duty and in the service of his country," a telegram from the navy department has informed his mother, Mrs. Margaret Davis, 307 Pierce Street. He was a flight commander and was on a carrier in the south Pacific.
The telegram asserted that on account of existing conditions the body, if recovered, cannot be returned at present.
Lieut. Rose has been a lifelong resident here and had been in the service about three years. For two years he was an instructor at Corpus Christi, Tex. He was graduated from Central High School and attended the University of Iowa.
The family last heard from him March 26, of this year. He was here on leave last summer.
Surviving beside his mother are the widow Jane, and an infant son, Jack, Jr., both of Storm Lake; his grandmother, Mrs. Rose of Creston, Iowa and an uncle, Ray Mitchell of Sioux City.

Jack Allen Rose was born June 1, 1917 to Clark and Margaret Mitchell Rose. He died Apr. 4, 1944 and is buried in Graceland Park Cemetery, Sioux City, IA.
LCDR Rose served with the U.S. Navy in World War II.
