George Pratt, 33, Died Off Okinawa
George Arthur Pratt, seaman, second class, was killed in the sinking of the destroyer Halligan Mar. 26 off Okinawa, the navy department has informed his parents and wife. He was manning a gun at the time.
Pratt was the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Pratt, 713 S.E. Astor st., and was 33. His wife, Doloris and their four children live at 2005 E. Thirty-ninth court. The children are James, Virgil, Velda and William.
Before entering the navy Jan, 3, 1944, Pratt worked at the Des Moines Ordnance plant. He went overseas June 15, 1944. He attended the old Amos Hiat High school.
Pratt also left four brothers, Edward, Elmer, Milton, all of Des Moines and Earl, stationed in an army anti-aircraft unit in Honolulu.
