Obituary: William Roger Orton
William Roger Orton, 75, of 1528 Forest Grove Rd., Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, July 14, 2001, in ManorCare Health Services, with lung cancer. Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home, by the Rev. Kay M. Slocum, with Masonic rites by Mount Herman Masonic Lodge. There will be no visitation. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military rites by VFW Post 788.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara; his daughters, Lisa Gorbatjuk and husband Dan of Marion, Sandra and Rose Marie; two sisters, Betty Kasner and Patricia Carder, both of Cedar Rapids; a brother, James Orton of Salina, Kan.; an aunt, Marie Nicklin of Ottumwa, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
William was born Aug. 1, 1925, the son of James and Viola Nevins Orton, in Hannibal, Missouri He served with the United States Marines during World War II and received a Purple Heart. On July 21, 1968, William was united in marriage to Barbara King in Cedar Rapids. He worked for the United States Post Office for 24 years, retiring in 1990. William was a member of VFW Post 788 and a 50-year member of Mount Herman Masonic Lodge. He loved fishing and woodworking and enjoyed model trains and his computer.
William will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

How do you get someone’s name listed for those who served and were injured? My dad received a Purple Heart in WWII. He was from CR. William R. Orton was his name. He died in 2001.
