GRADUATES
Merle E. Morgan, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Morgan of this city has graduated from the hospital corps school at the U.S. naval hospital at the Great Lakes naval training center in Illinois. The youth, one of a class of 451 men, is now rated as a hospital apprentice, second class.

Merle Morgan, pharmacist’s mate third class, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Morgan of this city, is now stationed at San Diego, with a medical unit. The Webster City sailor has been in the service for a year and a half. He took his boot training and advanced work at Great Lakes.

Merle Edwin Morgan was born May 19, 1924 to George Edwin and Welda Irene Davis Morgan. He died Apr. 27, 1987 and is buried in Graceland Cemetery, Webster City, IA.

Funeral services for Merle E. Morgan, 62, will be held Thursday, April 30 at 1:30 p.m. at the Foster Funeral Home with Tim Worstell officiating and burial in Graceland Cemetery. Graveside flag folding services will be conducted by American Legion Post 191.
Friends may call at the Foster Funeral Home after 7 p.m. tonight.
Mr. Morgan, a longtime Webster City resident, died Monday, April 27 at the Hamilton County Hospital.
Merle E. Morgan, son of George and Welda Davis Morgan, was born May 18, 1924 at Webster City. He graduated from Lincoln High School. He served with the Navy in World War II and with the Army in the Korean Conflict.
He was married to Beverly Gangestad on Dec. 6, 1949 at Fort Hood, Texas. The couple returned to Webster City. He was employed by the Webster City municipal light plant for 19 years. He retired in 1974. He had been assistant chief engineer.
Mr. Morgan also served on the city council for four years.
Survivors are his wife; three daughters, Sgt. Deborah (Mrs. Nels) Kinnerup of Fort Lewis, Wash., Vickie (Mrs. Darrell) Harrington of Webster City, and Theresa Jackson of Webster City; one son, E.5 Dennis Morgan of Schwabisch, Gmund, Germany; ten grandchildren; two sisters, Irene (Mrs. William) Carstens and Marie (Mrs. Stuart) Brooks.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Morgan was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and former member of the American Legion and VFW posts of Webster City.
