Carl Oscar Mestad was born Nov. 9, 1918 to Olaf Arthur and Alma Clarissa Amundson Mestad. He died Dec. 31, 1943 and is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, IA.
Cpl. Mestad died near Corsica in the Mediterranean Sea while serving with the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II. He was serving with Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron, 63rd Fighter Wing. He was initially listed as MIA and later declared as dying in the service of his country.
