Tom Manion, Petty Officer 1-c, recently reported to San Francisco after having spent a 30-day furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. O. Manion of Blairsburg. He had previously returned from 18 months at sea—most of which was spent in the Pacific.

Thomas Othello Manion, Jr. was born Mar. 19, 1924 to Thomas Othello (Sr.) and Ruth Etta Stout Manion. He died Mar. 18, 1979 and is buried in Crown Hill Cemetery, Wheat Ridge, CO.

Petty Officer Manion served with the U.S. Navy in World War II.

Services for Thomas Othello Manion Jr., a Denver educator, will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Moore Howard Mortuary, Clarkson Street. Burial will be in Crown Hill.

Manion, who lived at 460 Garland St., died Sunday of pulmonary edema while working on his cabin near St. Mary’s Glacier west of Idaho Springs. He was 54.

Born in Blairsburg, Iowa, March 19, 1924, he receive his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Iowa State University. He was supervisor of the Career Education Center for the Denver Public Schools.

He was a member of the Colorado Education Association, the Colorado Industrial Arts Association, the National Education Association and other organizations associated with the education profession.

He was a member of Bear Creek Presbyterian Church, Epsilon Pi Tau and Phi Delta Kappa , and St. Mary’s Property Owners Association.

He married Betty Lue Fletchall Dec. 26, 1950 in Norfolk, Va.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Kristi Stieger and Patricia C. Marion, both of Lakewood; a son, Thomas O. Manion III of Boulder, two sisters, Dorothy Gargano of Jacksonville, Ill., and Virginia Hemmen of Webster City, Iowa; and a grandson.

The Tom Manion Scholarship Fund has been established in his memory by the Career Education Center, 2650 Elint St., Denver 90211.
