Jack H. Loring, 84, of Sloan, Iowa and formerly of Webster City, Iowa died Monday, July 20, 2009, at his home in Sloan, Iowa. The funeral service will be Thursday, July 23 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton, Iowa with Msgr. Mark Duchaine officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery at Webster City, Iowa at 3:30 p.m. with military graveside honors provided by the Webster City American Legion Post #191. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Mapleton. Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton is in charge of the arrangements.
Jack Howard Loring was born June 3, 1925, in Webster City, Iowa, the son of Miles and Mabel (Huddleston) Loring. He grew up and was educated in the Webster City area, graduating from high school there. He served his country during World War II as a fighter pilot, returning home to work in Webster City after his honorable discharge. He married Dorothy Allen in January of 1952.
He owned and operated the West End Cafe and later D's Coffee Shop-Maid Rite, in Webster City until 1975. At that time he bought a travel trailer, wintering in Phoenix for several years. He also delivered motor homes for Winnebago from 1980 to 1989.
On June 9, 1989, Jack married Jessica Worrell at Webster City, living there until March of 2009 when they moved to Smithland, Iowa. They had moved to Sloan, Iowa just prior to Jack's death.
He was a member of the Webster City American Legion Post #191 as well as the Elk's Club of Webster City. Jack was an avid motorcycle rider!
Survivors include his wife, Jessica of Sloan, Iowa; three daughters and their husbands: Judy and Ralph Brandt of Sun City, Arizona; Janet and John Hildreth of Ankeny, Iowa and Jacqueline and Randy Tempel of Webster City, Iowa; six grandchildren: Debbie Schwabbauer, Diane Spice, Don Schwabbauer, Daniel Hildreth, Amy Warrick, and James Tempel; nine great grandchildren; and one brother and his wife, Miles and Virginia Loring of Granada Hills, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bob and Tom; and one grandson, Jack Tempel.
