Pfc. Gail Lewis, son of Operator Clark Lewis of Herndon, Ia., was killed in action in Europe on Apr. 15. He had been in the Infantry for four years. Two brothers, Robert and Theodore, are with the army in England, and another brother, William, is in the Mariana Islands with the navy.

Gail DeLoss Lewis was born Oct. 4, 1917 to Charles Clark and Lela Lewis. He died Apr. 15, 1945 and is buried in Lorraine American Cemetery, St. Avold, France and has a cenotaph in Dawson Cemetery, Dawson, IA.
Pvt. Lewis served in World War II with the U.S. Army 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division and was KIA in Germany and awarded the Purple Heart.
