Arnold Jerome Lavin was born in 1918 to Ambrose J. and Jessie C. Lavin. He died Sept. 16, 1950 and is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, IA.
Cpl. Lavin served with the U.S. Army in World War II and Korea. During World War II he was a POW in Stalag 2-B in Germany for 27 months. He was awarded the American Defense and ETO ribbons.
He was KIA while fighting the enemy in South Korea with the 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service medal.
