Henry Orville Langrehr, Jr. was born Nov. 4, 1924 to Henry Orville (Sr.) and Catherine V. Steiniger Langrehr.
Henry served in World War II with the U.S. Army Co. B, 307th Parachute Engineers, 82nd Airborne Division and became a German POW in Stalag 13B. He later escaped from that camp.
As a member of the 82nd, he was one of 6,000 who parachuted into France early in the morning of June 6, 1944. He survived the jump, months of fighting, being wounded twice and escaping from a Nazi prison camp after months of working as a laborer mining coal. He was awarded Two Purple Hearts and two Bronze Stars. The French republic named him a knight of the Legion of Honor—“the highest honor that France can bestow upon those who have achieved remarkable deeds for France”-- for his actions during World War II.
