Albert Eugene ‘Knute’ Knutson was born Oct. 12, 1925 to Myron O. and Mildred I. Reynolds Knutson. He died Nov. 24, 2000 and is buried in Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola, FL.
Capt. Knutson served with the U.S. Navy in World War II, Korea and Vietnam.

Albert Eugene Knutson, a retired Navy captain, died Friday November 24, 2000 at Meadowcrest Hospital in New Orleans. Knute was 75. Knute was born in Ellsworth and lived in New Orleans. He graduated from Ohio State University.
Knute served on the USS Ranger, USS Philippine Sea, USS Coral Sea, and was the Commanding Officer on the USS Mars. He was a skipper of Squadron VA-152 in Vietnam.
He received the following commendations: Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star, Air Medal, Navy Commendation Medal; Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, American Defense Service Medal, World War Victory Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation, Gallantry Cross Color and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Knute retired from the United States Navy in 1978 after serving his country for 38 years.
After retiring from the Navy he served as harbormaster for the New Orleans Municipal Yacht Harbor.
Survivors include his wife Doris Catlin Knutson; two daughters, Betsy Koidra of Maryland and Debra Wood of Washington; a sister Karen Auestad of Randall; and four grandchildren.
A military graveside service was held November 29th at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, FL. Mothe Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
