Bronze Star Awarded to Creston Corporal

With the 9th Infantry Division in France - Cpl. Richard L. Kinkennon, 23, Creston, Iowa, has been presented the bronze star by Major General M.S. Eddy, commander of the 9th Infantry division for "heroic action against the enemy" as a messenger with U.S. forces fighting in Normandy.
Cpl. Kinkennon, son of Thomas Kinkennon, entered the army in January 1942, and saw action in the North African invasion, Tunisia and Sicily. A year ago he received a written commendation from General Eddy for "outstanding and especially meritorious service" during the Tunisian campaign. A private first class when recommended for the bronze star award, he was promoted to corporal a few days later.

Richard L. Kinkennon was born Mar. 4, 1921 to Thomas A. and Emma Julia Johnson Kinkennon. He died Aug. 15, 1985 and is buried in Graceland Cemetery, Union County, IA.
