Nine Local Men Passed Physicals Last Tues.
All nine of the local men passed their physicals at Omaha last Tuesday and are subject to call any time. Eight of them will be in the army and one, John Wesselink, in the navy, according to unofficial reports.
There were over eighty men from Sioux County in this group. Wally Schaap of Alton was rejected. The Sioux Center men were Irvin Mouw, Lawrence Bleeker, Don Brommer, Richard Meyer, Clayton Balkema, Martin Punt, John Wesselink, Willis Meylink and Marion Kempers.

Marion Kempers drove to Sioux City Wednesday to get his release from the Wincharger defense plant where he had been working for several months, as he will leave soon for the Marine Corps.

Marion Kempers Hurt At Camp
Pvt. Marion Kempers, who is stationed at San Diego, Calif. was injured last Friday while his group were out on the field for target practice and a bullet hit the carrier and then glanced off hitting Marion and lodging in his left shoulder.
He is at present being cared for at the hospital and his address is: Pvt. Marion Kempers, U.S.N. Hospital building 21-1, San Diego, Calif.

The U.S. Navy is apparently releasing to civilian life quite a number of veterans at this time, judging from the number of navy men who filed discharges at County Recorder Van Roekel’s office the past week.

Marion James Kempers was born Dec. 2, 1933, at Sioux Center, Iowa, where he was residing prior to entering the Marine Corps on March 21, 1944, at Des Moines, Iowa. He served with the 2nd 155mm Howitzer Bn. FMF Pac and the 12th 155mm Gun Bn, FMF Pac, left for overseas service on Sept. 10, 1944, returned on Dec. 28, 1945, and was honorably discharged on May 2, 1946. His application for bonus pay was filed on May 20, 1949, for which he received $290.00.
