Pvt. Walter Emery Johnston

Hornick, Iowa—Ensign Edna M. Johnston, who for the past five years has been a registered nurse at both the Methodist hospitals in Sioux City and Des Moines, is now at the Great Lakes naval hospital. She is the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Johnston of Hornick. Walter E. Johnston, a son, who for two years has been in defense work on the west coast, has enlisted in the merchant marine and is now somewhere on the Pacific.

Walter Emery Johnston was born Mar. 14, 1920 to Earl Benton and Minnie Emeline Clift Johnston. He died June 6, 1945 and is buried in Willow Cemetery, Holly Springs, IA.

Pvt. Johnston served in World War II with the U.S. Army Co. L, 17th Infantry, 7th Infantry Division and was KIA on Okinawa Island, Ryukyu Islands.
