Marion L. Janke

IOWA BOYS IN SOUTH PACIFIC—
Serving as shipmates aboard a coast guard-manned invasion transport in the South Pacific, these four ruddy invaders are all from Iowa.  They are veterans of several major amphibious operations against the Japs.  Recently they came back to the U. S.
From left to right they are:  James J. Lolwing, signal man, third class, of Grundy Center;
Coast Guardsman Donald M. Pierce, ship’s cook, second class, of Des Moines;
Coast Guardsman Marion L. Janke, yeoman, second class, of Iowa Falls; and
Coast Guardsman Harold W. Pruden, coxswain, 1128 Mound street, Davenport.

Marion Leonard Janke was born Oct. 19, 1922 to Albert W. and Martha S. Gehrke Janke. He died Dec. 7, 1964 and is buried in Oakdale Memorial Park, Glendora, CA.

Marion served with the U.S. Coast Guard.
