Walter Melvin Hoffsomer was born Nov. 20, 1923 to Charles A. and Gladys Lenora Carpenter Hoffsomer. He died Sept. 20, 1944 and is buried in Fairview Cemetery, Dows, IA.
Pvt. Hoffsomer served in World War II with the U.S. Army Co. G, 17th Airborne Division. 517th Parachute Infantry Regiment Combat Team and was KIA at Provence, France. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
