Merle Lee Herron was born Aug. 18, 1917 to Hugh Oliver and Carrie Bell Long Herron. He died Nov. 27, 1996 and is buried in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN.
Pvt. Herron served in World War II with the U.S. Marine Corps and was captured by the Japanese on Wake Island December 1941 and liberated from Shanghai Prison camp Sept 1945.
