John Benjamin Hughes was born Feb. 15, 1913 to Ray and Florence Shryock Hughes. He died Dec. 27, 2005 and is buried in Graceland Cemetery, Webster City, IA.
Sgt. Hughes served with the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II and received the Victory and Good Conduct Medals and the Asiatic Pacific Theater and the American Theater ribbons.
Obituary: Mr. John B. Hughes, age 92, of Orange, beloved husband of the late Doris Grubb Hughes, passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at Milford Health Care Center.
Son of the late Ray and Florence Shryock Hughes, he was born on February 15, 1913, in Webster City, Iowa. He was a master sergeant during World War II, where he received the Victory and Good Conduct Medals, and the Asiatic Pacific Theater and the American Theater Ribbons.
Mr. Hughes was a Benefits Manager at the former Arm-Tek of New Haven for over 35 years until his retirement. He was a mason of the Acanthus Lodge #632 in Des Moines, IA and a member of the Sons of the American Revolution.
Mr. Hughes is survived by a son, John R. Hughes and his wife, Susan, of Milford; a granddaughter, Shannon L. Hughes; a great-grandson, Peyton L. Roach, both of Richmond, Va.; a sister, Margaret Johnson of Johnston, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Virginia Smith of Orleans, Mass.; and three nieces. He was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Hughes.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 30 at 11 a.m. at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad Street on the Green, Milford. Committal will be private. Friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Orange Congregational Church, 205 Meetinghouse Ln., Orange, CT 06477..
