Former Councilman Hisler Dies
Two-term Webster City City Councilman and former Mayor Victor ‘Vic’ Hisler died Saturday at his home in Webster City.
Services for Hisler, 65, are planned for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of Christ in Webster City, with Ray Artrip, Melvyn Moberly, Robert Scott and Tim Worstell officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Graveside flag folding services will be conducted by American Legion Post 191. Friends may call at Foster’s Funeral Home until 8 a.m. Tuesday.
Hisler was first elected to the city council in 1984 and was re-elected in 1988. His tenure in office ended in December of 1991. He served as mayor from 1986 through 1990.
Former City Councilwoman Audrey Warland today remembered Hisler as a man who was committed to serving the people of Webster City.
“I think he felt very dedicated to the city, as I do,” Warland said. She served with Hisler on the council for eight of her 12 years as councilwoman.
“We became very close friends through those eight years. We were able to disagree without harming our friendship. And there were times when we disagreed,” Warland said.
“He did his research very well and served his constituents.” On a personal note, Warland added, “I’m going to miss him.”
Victor Albert Hisler, the son of Adolf and Sophie (Grandgeorge) Hisler, was born Feb. 4, 1926 near Woolstock. He attended rural Woolstock school and later moved with his family to Webster City, where he continued his education. Following his schooling, Hisler served with the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II.
On June 28, 1958, he married Selma Fay at Freeport, Ill.
For 31 years, Mr. Hisler owned and operated Vic’s Auto Body in Webster City, retiring from the business in 1988. Since that time he had worked as a sales representative for Nationwide Advertising Specialties.
He is survived by: His wife, Selma; two daughters, Zona Hildebrand, Marion, and Marsha Rexroat, Webster City; one son, LeRoy Matteson, Webster City; seven grandchildren; six great grand-children; and one sister, Bertha Peck, Clarion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two grandchildren, two brothers and one sister.
In addition to his service to the city council, Mr. Hisler was a member of the Church of Christ and several local organizations. For seven years he was active in the MIDAS Council of Governments and was a past officer of the group. He was a member of the American Legion Post 191, VFW Post 5724, the Moose Lodge 735, Webster City Noon Kiwanis, of which he was a past president, BonDeLaRouge Club, secretary of Woodman of the World Boys Club and was a Civil Air Patrol Cadet.

Victor Albert ‘Vic’ Hisler was born Feb. 4, 1926 to Adolph and Sophie Grandegeorge Hisler. He died Jan. 18, 1992 and is buried in Graceland Cemetery, Webster City, IA.
Pvt. Hisler served with the U.S. Army in World War II with the 112th Regiment Combat Team.
