He had ridden motorcycles since 1928 and on four continents and won several Iowa championships in road and track events for motorcycles and sports cars. He was a member of the Iowa Motorcyclist Hall of Fame; a member of several motorcycle clubs, including The Omaha Chapter of Antique Motorcycles Club of America; BMW owners and a life member of the American Motorcyclist Association; Phi Kappa Psi and Phi Delta Phi fraternities.
