Virgil V. Hassebrock, 82, Council Bluffs

Virgil V. Hassebrock, 82, Council Bluffs, a former Kamrar resident, died March 6, 2004 at Alegent Health Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs. Memorial services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the Cutler-O’Neill Funeral Home in Council Bluffs. Lunch and fellowship will follow at the American Legion Post #2 in Council Bluffs. Burial and additional services will follow at a later date in Kamrar.

Virgil Hassebrock, son of Henry and Minnie Van Langen Hassebrock, was born Sept. 24, 1921 in Kamrar. He graduated from Kamrar High School in 1939 and attended Boyles Business College for two years. He served in the US Army during World War II. Mr. Hassebrock was the chief clerk for the Illinois Central Railroad for 29 1/2 years, retiring in 1981.

He was a member off the Kamrar Presbyterian Church, Council Bluffs American Legion Post #2 of 61 years, Disabled American Veterans and the Elks Lodge. He was a volunteer fundraiser for the American Legion Baseball team and for Swing for the Handicapped.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, Mary Ann Hassebrock, and an infant nephew, Russell A. Scott.

Virgil served with the U.S. Army in World War II.
