Vern E. Harper was born Feb. 13, 1923 to Floyd H. and Elsie M. Peeper Harper. He died June 26, 1944 and is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein, IA.
Sgt. Harper served in World War II with the 15th U.S. Army Air Corps as assistant engineer and gunner, B-24 Liberator Group. He was awarded the air medal and four bronze oak leaf clusters and the Purple Heart.
