John B. and Josephine Hanke had three sons serving their country in World War II: John Joseph, Paul Joseph, James Francis.
Paul Joseph Hanke was born Oct. 12, 1909. He died Nov. 30, 1987 and is buried in Calvary Cemetery, Webster City, IA.
Paul served with the U.S. Army in World War II with Company C, 804th Engineering Aviation Battalion in the South Pacific.

Joseph P. Hanke, 78 of Marshalltown, died late Monday, Nov 30 at the V.A. Hospital in Des Moines where he had been a patient since Nov. 10.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 4 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with Fr. Ardel Barta officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Scripture services will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Foster Funeral Home.
He is survived by two nephews, Rev. James Hanke of Manchester, and William Hanke of Denison; and a sister-in-law, Marian Hanke of Webster City.
Joseph Paul Hanke, son of John and Josephine Haeffliger Hanke, was born Oct. 12, 1909 at Webster City where he received his education.
He was a plumber and electrician in Ruthven for 25 years and in Webster City 20 years. Since March of 1985, he had resided at the Soldiers Home in Marshalltown.
During World War II, Mr. Hanke served with the Army Engineers in the South Pacific.
