George William Guernsey was born Nov. 24, 1919 to George and Myrtle Guernsey. He died Sept. 7, 1944 and has a cenotaph in Springfield National Cemetery, Springfield, MO.
Pvt. Guernsey served in World War II with the U.S. Army and became a POW of the Japanese. He was declared dead as a POW on a Japanese freighter which was sunk off the western shores of Mindanao.
