Richard G. Friel Killed in Action
Pfc. Richard G. Friel, 19 year old infantryman, was killed in action May 16, on Okinawa, the war department has informed his wife, Virginia 1134 Twentythird St.
Private Friel, graduate of Dowling High school in June 1944, received basic training at Camp Wolters, Tex. and was sent overseas in January.
Memorial mass will be held at 9 a.m. Monday at St Ambrose cathedral.
Surviving besides his widow, are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George V. Friel, 1021 Third st, and three sisters, Grace Margaret Friel, technician, fifth grade in the WAC, at Schick hospital, Clinton, Ia., and Nora and Loretta at home.

Richard G. Friel was born Nov. 24, 1925 to George Vincent and Nora Florence Kinney Friel. He died May 16, 1945 and is buried in Glendale Cemetery, Des Moines, IA. He was initially buried in Island Command Cemetery in Okinawa.
Pvt. Friel served in World War II with the U.S. Army 383rd Infantry, 96th Division and was KIA in Okinawa.
