Harold Eugene Dearchs was born July 3, 1919 to Claude and Margaret Gertrude Hofius Dearchs. He died Feb. 2, 1945 and is buried in Riverview Cemetery, Algona, IA.
Harold served in World War II with the U.S. Army 401st Glider Infantry, 52nd Airborne Division and died of wounds received in action. He was previously interred in Henri-Chapelle Cemetery in Belgium before his remains were returned to Algona. He was the first man from Union township to lose his life in action.
