Notes and Addresses from Men in the Armed Forces
Dear Chuck:
Sept. 28, 1943
I want to thank you for sending all of us boys the Index so regularly. We surely enjoy reading the news every week. It helps us keep up on things back home, even if we are quite a way from home.
I am now at Amarillo, Texas. The weather here is just right. It is neither too warm nor too cold, but I guess I arrived here the right time of year as reports are that it gets pretty warm here during midsummer.
I would surely appreciate it if you will send the Index to my new address, so am signing off for now, as one of your many friends.

Dear Editor: Sept. 26, 1943
It is high time that I write you a few lines to let you know I have been receiving your paper very regularly. I sure enjoy getting the News from week to week.
I am now stationed at Amarillo, Tex. and am attending an airplane mechanic school.
From Scott Field, Ill. we were sent to Lincoln, Nebr. On this trip we travelled through the southern part of Iowa for a long way and I still think that good old Iowa has the best corn fields. We were stationed at Lincoln, Nebr. only a short time and then sent here to Texas.
I like it here at Texas real well. The Field is nice and also pretty large and our meals are very good.
Each class here has a different day off. Our class was fortunate enough to have Sunday off which gives us a good chance to attend a regular church on Sundays.
It’s time for me to close now would appreciate your sending the News to my new address.
Sincerely,
Pvt. Lawrence De Wild

Notes and Addresses from Men in the Armed Forces
Chanute Field, Illinois, Feb. 9, ‘44
Dear Chuck:
Just wanted to drop a few lines to inform you that my address has been changed. We were moved to Chanute, Field, Ill. It took 36 hours to make the trip.
We will take a short course in mechanics here. As yet we haven’t started school but are waiting for an opening. The schools seem to be very crowded lately so will probably wait a couple of weeks yet. I have had K. P. here twice but it isn’t bad at all as we are only given 12 hours at one time. The food is very good, too, and have some very large and clean mess halls.
I want to thank you for sending the Index so regularly. At Amarillo, Texas, I received it every Sunday morning right on the dot and always looked forward to getting it.
So I would appreciate it a lot if you would send it to my new address. Sincerely,
Pvt. Lawrence De Wild 37467012
