Cpl. George DeGroat

 

 

IN UNIFORM

B. W. DeGroat, motor machinist mate second class, has returned from 11 months overseas and is spending a 30-day leave with his grandmother, Mrs. Minnie Kneeland, 513 Leach street. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. D. R. Houchins of Los Angeles.  Mr. DeGroat attended Woodrow Wilson junior school before entering the service in November, 1943. He trained at Farragut, Idaho, before going overseas on an L. S. T. He took part in the invasion of southern France. He will report to his ship at the end of his leave. 

His brother, Cpl. George DeGroat, is with an artillery unit of the 34th “Red Bull” division which took part in the invasions of Africa, Italy and France. He was a member of the Iowa National Guard unit which left here in February, 1941.
